General overview of preparing a garden bed which is basically grass covered to begin. The various operations are simplified with the right tools. Most can be rented at a reasonable cost, if the size of the garden doesn't warrant purchasing.

I noticed that you used the mini-ties. Did you manage to find some that hadn't been pressure-treated, or is that not actually a concern?

I have used the pressure-treated mini-ties for several years, and encountered absolutely no harmful effects on plant growth. Also I have used creosote treated old railway ties, and found that earthworms concentrate against the ties for overwintering. Two urban myth shattered-I hope.

I was thinking more along the lines of the chemicals (like arsenic) being incorporated into the plants, then into your diet.

I don't mull over such matters. Don't sweat the little stuff. Supermarket prepared food is probably far more hazardous than the little bit of leaching from pressure treated wood in a home garden.
