Always a pretty plant in the garden. This plant over-wintered in Zone 5. Usually the tubers are lifted and storaged for winter.

Durgan, you actually mean you left the plant in the garden and it flowered the following spring? I love dahlias, but I never managed to overwinter them. I am in zone 5b. Can you please share your method? Thank you. Teresa
Survival was more accidental than design. I was as surprised as anybody,when the Dahlia started to grow. Possibly a good location and good ground cover. In general the bulbs have to be pulled in the Fall.
